The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that a child be seen by pediatric dentists by the time their first tooth appears or no later than their first birthday. Our experience shows that when a child begins dental visits at a young age, they are more at home in our office and are more likely to stay on a path to a lifetime of optimum dental health. To encourage a proper early start to dental care, we offer free exams to all children under the age of 2. At Pediatric Dental Associates of Randolph in Randolph, New Jersey, early prevention and education are our two main priorities.
Our hygienists will discuss proper brushing habits and what foods and drinks are good choices for optimum oral health. At periodic regular checkups with Dr. Mannella and our team, children will receive a cleaning, and exam to identify cavities or developmental problems and fluoride treatments if needed.
Here are some great tips to get started with dental care at home:
- Even before eruption of the first tooth, the gums should be wiped with a warm cloth after eating and before bed.
- Once the first tooth is erupted, begin the brushing routine! This includes using a pea sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste.
- Allow your child to brush their own teeth! Make it fun with a youtube video or song. Just remember, it is important to step in and make sure the job is getting done right!
Our mission is to make every appointment in our office a positive experience for both parents and their children while helping to achieve optimum dental health for your child. Our staff thrives on making visits fun and relaxing and invites you to call 973-989-7970 to learn more details.
